Korean ship detained at Indian port for 4 months
A Korean cargo ship has been detained at an Indian port for about four months due to its failure to pay for fuel costs, the foreign ministry said Friday.
The ship has been detained in Kandla, a seaport located in western India, since June 14, according to the ministry. Six Korean crew members and seven Indonesians reportedly remain on board.
The ministry said that the detention is due to a legal battle related to the ship owner's alleged failure to pay for fuel costs, the ministry said.
Details have yet to be confirmed but the crew on board might be suffering from food shortages since they have not been allowed to get off the ship since the detention started.
"We are cooperating with relevant government agencies including the maritime affairs ministry to bring them home as quickly as possible," a foreign ministry official said. (Yonhap)
