Smallest church to be built in Jeju

The smallest church in the country will be built on Jeju Island.

Kim Tae-hun, a pastor on Jeju Island, said the church with a floor space of eight square meters will be built next year near the Yongsu Reservoir. Named The Pilgrims’ Church, it will be located close to the 13th Olle hiking trail, where tens of thousands of people hike each year.

He said the church is capable of accommodating only four or five adults at one time. Its exterior is decorated with whinstone from Jeju Island, the country’s largest volcanic island. The tiny building will be constructed on land donated by a Christian.

The pastor said he wishes the church to be used as a place where hikers can temporarily rest their souls.

“I hope that regardless of religion, they can search their souls and find internal peace at the church,” Kim said.
