3 medical students sexually harass fellow female student
Three male students from a prestigious medical school sexually harassed a fellow female student, police said.
The three students surnamed Han, 24; Bae, 25; and Park, 23, committed the crime during a trip with friends to Yongchu Valley in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province on May 21, after the victim got drunk and fell asleep, a police officer said.
According to the officer, the suspects were drinking with other friends at the inn they were staying but when the victim went into the room and fell asleep, they took off all her clothes and touched her body. One of them, Han, even videotaped the scene, he said.
“They admitted to undressing and touching the victim. We have also confiscated the camera they used and got hold of the photos,” said the officer.
However, Han is denying the suspicion of rape. Police have sent the victim’s underwear and body fluids to the National Forensic Service for laboratory identification
Prior to the investigation, the victim filed reports of sexual harassment to the university’s center for gender equality and the Korea Sexual Violence Relief Center under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. She is reportedly going through psychological therapy to overcome shock from the incident.
“Because the students charged of sexual harassment are medical students pending graduation, we haven’t been able to decide the punishment,” said an official from the university.
“Depending on the investigation result, we may even consider expelling.” Expulsion is the harshest punishment a school can give a student.
