Intoxicated resident slept with woman patient on same bed

A medical resident, who was intoxicated, slept beside a woman patient on the same bed in a hospital in North Jeolla Province, the Dong-A Ilbo newspaper reported Thursday, quoting local police.

But what makes things worse is that a psychotropic substance was found in the patient, triggering speculation that he may have administered it.

The Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency said that it was told by the National Forensic Service that ketamin, a drug that can be misused, was found in the women patient.

The anesthesiology resident reportedly slept beside the woman, who underwent a surgery at the hospital earlier, for about 20 minutes from 2:05 a.m. on May 19 on the same bed in a room on the fourth floor of the hospital.

A nurse witnessed the scene when she visited the room designed to accommodate six patients as part of her night round, police said. The nurse reported the incident to the hospital’s One-Stop Service Center after waking up around 8:30 a.m. the same day.

The resident said during two rounds of questioning that he, intoxicated, first intended to go to a night-duty room, but entered the patients’ room by mistake, according to the police. After that, he said, he cannot remember what happened.

The police agency said it secured a CCTV footage that shows the resident enter the hospital and then go to the patient’s room.

Police officers did not rule out the possibility that he may have administered the drug to the woman. However, no evidence has been detected from the woman that she was sexually assaulted, they said.

After its own initial investigation, the hospital suspended the resident from the hospital. Disciplinary action will be taken after the police agency presents the results of its investigation, a hospital official said.

의사와 병실침대서 잠자던 여환자 몸에서 마약성분 검출

전북의 한 병원 수련의사가 만취한 상태로 20대 여성환자가 누워 있던 병실 침대에서 함께 잠을 자다가 적발된 사건과 관련해 환자 몸에서 향정신성의약품 성분이 나와 파문이 예상된다.

전북지방경찰청은 이 환자의 몸에서 향정신성의약품인 케타민 성분이 검출됐다는 국립과학수사연구소의 통보를 받았다고 2일 밝혔다.

경찰에 따르면 전북 모 병원 마취과 레지던트인 A씨는 지난달 19일 오전 2시 5분 경 수술을 받고 이 병원 4층 병실에 입원 중인 B씨 침대에 올라가 20여분간 나란히 누워 잠을 잤다는 것.

술에 취한 A씨는 6인실인 B씨의 병실에 들어와 코를 골며 함께 자다가 회진 중인 간호사에게 적발됐다. 약 기운 때문에 같은 날 오전 8시 30분 경 깨어난 B씨는 병원 내 원스톱지원센터에 이 같은 사실을 신고했다.

경찰에 두 차례 소환된 A씨는 "술에 취해 라면을 먹으러 당직실로 가려다가 4층 병실로 잘못 들어갔고 그 뒤 아무런 기억이 나지 않는다"고 말했다. 경찰은 술에 취한 A씨가 병원에 들어와 병실 안으로 들어가는 CCTV를 확보했다.

경찰은 A씨가 B씨에게 향정신정의약품을 투여했을 가능성이 크다고 보고 성범죄 여부를 집중 추궁하고 있다. 경찰 조사 결과 B씨의 몸에선 성폭행 흔적이 발견되지 않았다.

병원 측은 자체 조사를 거쳐 A씨의 업무를 정지시켰으며 추후 경찰 조사 결과가 나오는 대로 중징계할 방침이다.
