Beijing, Seoul have same view on Pyongyang: Amb. Yu

South Korea and China have the same views basically on North Korea to goad it in the right direction so that it can integrate into the international community, but differ on methods and speed in doing so, South Korea’s top envoy to China has said.

South Korean ambassador to China Yu Woo-ik made the remark in a meeting with other Korean diplomats in Hong Kong, Saturday.

When asked on the difference between South Korea and China on the Cheonan issue, Yu said: “The very fact that the two countries can talk about their differences is the evidence for the improvement of the bilateral relationship.

“Even though there may be gaps, the two can overcome them by mutual concessions,” he said.

Yu, however, dodged the sensitive question of what steps China is likely to take next. “It’s inappropriate for me to predict the future steps towards a diplomatically sensitive issue,” he said.
