Seoul Pushes for UN Cyber Security Body
The government said Tuesday it is contemplating a plan to create a Seoul-based international organization against cyber terrorism.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security said it will lay out a roadmap for the plan through consultations with relevant ministries in the first half of the year and make a proposal at the G-20 summit to be held in Seoul this November.
A series of DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks on U.S. and South Korean government and private Web sites last July called to attention the need for a world body for combating cyber terrorism.
South Korea's state intelligence agency later said it found evidence showing North Korea's involvement in the attacks.
"We will make efforts to propose organizing a comprehensive cyber security body and set up its headquarters in Seoul if possible," a ministry official said, requesting anonymity.
