Supersize Baby Born in Indonesia
A woman in Indonesia has given birth to the country's biggest ever baby ― tipping the scales at a whopping 8.7kg and 62cm.
Sky News of Britain has reported that the boy was born by Caesarean section at a hospital in North Sumatra province. It reported that the boy is in a healthy condition despite having to initially be given oxygen to overcome breathing problems.
A gynaecologist who took part in the operation said the ``special delivery'' was no easy feat. "This heavy baby made the surgery really tough, especially the process of taking him out of his mum's womb. His legs were so big," Binsar Sitanggang said.
The boy's huge size was most likely the result of his 41-year-old mother having diabetes, Sitanggang said. "When a diabetic mother's glucose level is high during pregnancy, the baby can receive too much glucose and grow too large.''
The baby is also "extraordinary" in almost every way. "He's got strong appetite, every minute, it's almost non-stop feeding," he said. "This baby boy is extraordinary, the way he's crying is not like a usual baby. It's really loud."
The boy's mother had to be rushed to hospital because of complications with the pregnancy, which had reached nine months.
The baby is the woman's fourth child, but her only child not traditionally delivered by a midwife.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's previous heaviest baby, weighing in at 6.9kg, was born in 2007 on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta, according to the Sky News.

이 아기의 특별 분만은 쉽지 않았다. 당시 담당의였던 시탕강은 "힘든 수술이었다. 특히 아기의 다리가 지나치게 길어 산모의 뱃속에서 아기를 꺼내는데 어려움을 겪었다''고 말했다.
시탕강은 ``슈퍼사이즈'' 아기가 태어난 원인에 대해 당뇨병을 앓고 있는 엄마 (41) 때문이 아니냐는 추측도 내놓았다. 그는 "임신 중 엄마의 당 수치가 상승하면서 아기에게 지나치게 많은 양의 당이 공급돼 과도하게 성장한 것 같다"고 밝혔다.
신체 사이즈만큼 아기는 모든 면에서도 "남다르다." 시탕강은 "'슈퍼사이즈' 아기는 강한 식욕을 보이며 쉬지 않고 먹고 있다"며 "울음 소리도 다른 아기들에 비해 매우 크다. 정말 크다"고 밝혔다.
