Korean Rice Wine Served on Asiana

Asiana Airlines will offer "makgeolli," a traditional rice wine, at all routes going to and from Japan starting Friday.

Makgeolli is made from fermented rice and is enjoying increasing popularity in Japan. The liquor is one of the most popular Korean traditional drinks for its rich taste and affordable price.

The carrier decided to introduce the traditional liquor in-flight as part of its efforts to globalize Korean food and encourage the consumption of rice. Asiana has been conducting various programs to promote tourism in Korea.

Asiana's makgeolli will be served with acorn-starch jelly, another traditional snack the airline has developed.

Asiana will diversify its Korean snack menu to include kimch served with bean curd and mung bean pancakes.

The airline has been serving Korean dishes ― such as bibimbap (rice mixed with assorted vegetables), ssambap (rice wrapped in lettuce) and chicken ginseng soup ― as in-flight meals.
