A man set himself on fire at a police station in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, Wednesday night in a apparent anger over a police drunk-driving test.
According to police, he doused himself with an inflammable liquid and used a lighter to torch himself at around 8:45 p.m. He was sent to nearby hospital but later died.
The 48-year-old bumped his car into a taxi while intoxicated. His blood-alcohol concentration level was 0.174 percent, almost four times higher than the legal level of 0.05.
Police believe that the man was angry about the drunk-driving test and burned himself in a fit of rage. They are investigating the matter further. The man passed through the main gate of the police station with a container of inflammable liquid, without guards noticing.
A policeman who attempted to put out the blaze was injured and is being treated at a hospital. The fire burned several doors in the building.
