Four centers for interracial children will be established in Seoul to embrace multicultural families here, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Thursday.
The ``Multicultural, Multiracial Kindergartens'' will be open to both bi-racial and Korean children for increased understanding. Their locations will be designated after research and opening will occur no later than the end of the year.
There are currently two such centers ― Samuel Kindergarten in Yongsan and Shinil Kindergarten in Youndeungpo ― both neighborhoods in which many biracial families reside. The city government has also financed 13 nurseries in Jung-gu District, each with more than five Chinese-speaking children and Chinese-speaking staff.
``The centers will be places to draw attention and understanding to those we have seen so much but feel unfamiliar with it,'' city official Kim Jeong-sook said.
