The weather is expected to be bitterly cold across the nation over the weekend.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), morning lows in Seoul are expected to be minus 9 degrees Celsius Saturday and midday highs, minus 4 degrees. Daegwallyeong, in Gangwon Province, will record a low of minus 18 degrees in the morning.
KMA predicted intense cold on Sunday as well. The mercury will drop as low as 11 degrees below zero in Seoul in the morning. Most central parts of Korea will also reach below minus 10 degrees, with the chill reaching its peak Sunday.
Snow is forecasted for the western coast of the Jeolla region and Jeju Island. Twenty centimeters of snow are expected in the mountainous areas of Jeju Island, while 3 to 10 centimeters of snow are expected for Ulleung Island and Dokdo. The western coast is expected to see snow until Monday.
``The cold weather is expected to abate next Wednesday,'' a KMA official said.
