The Ministry of Environment Saturday kicked off a campaign to cut carbon emissions, a major contributor to the greenhouse effect that is changing the climate.
The initial participants of the ``Green Start Movement'' are officials from governmental agencies, local administrations and civic groups.
Those who cut carbon emissions or buy low-carbon products will be granted ``carbon points,'' which can be exchanged for discounts at public facilities. The campaign will also promote ways to cut emissions in daily life.
The move came after President Lee Myung-bak outlined ``green and low-carbon growth'' as one of his policy cornerstones.
