Fifty-three sex offenders to be released Tuesday on probation will be the first group to wear electronic anklets, the Ministry of Justice said Sunday.

The tracking system will alert monitoring officials when they enter school zones, the house of a prior victim, go out at night or attempt to remove the device. The maximum monitoring period is set at 10 years.

Under the current law, those convicted twice for sex crimes or convicted pedophiles are to be monitored on a real-time basis.

The correctional authorities will be able to monitor the paroled in real time and will also conduct education programs to prevent recidivism. About 200-300 sex criminals are to wear the monitor this year. The tracking system, first introduced in Florida in 1997, is in effect in 10 countries.
