Center to Be Named After Gold Medalist

Goyang City will name a weightlifting center after Jang Mi-ran, the Beijing Olympics gold medallist and world record holder, the city said Monday.

The center will be an eight-story, 3,400 square meter building with weightlifting facilities for professionals as well as squash and table tennis courts for local residents. The city plans to choose a name from either ``Jang Mi-ran Weightlifting Center,'' ``Jang Mi-ran Weightlifting Training Center'' or ``Jang Mi-ran Gymnasium'' to honor the first Korean female ever to win gold in the category. Jang is part of the city's weightlifting team.

The city is to host the World Weightlifting Championships next year.
