The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) will host an international symposium on strengthening and operating global networks to share faculties, students, facilities and other resources for common advancement at the Westin Chosun Hotel, Monday.

The forum, ``The 1st International Presidential Forum on Global Research Universities,'' will bring together about 70 school leaders from 39 universities in 20 countries including nine presidents of Korean universities.

KAIST President Suh Nam-pyo will deliver a keynote speech on how to share facilities and expertise.

``Research universities have become global enterprises,'' Suh said. ``Collaboration that was once primarily between individuals and researchers is now increasingly occurring at institutional and international levels. Similarly, educating students which used to be the responsibility of a single university has now become a multi-institutional undertaking, involving many universities in different countries.''

Noting that the current system fails to meet the interest and need of some institutions, he said, ``This forum will help forge an international network of universities that will strengthen the efforts of individual universities and create an alliance for research and education that can become a new paradigm for global collaboration.''

An international academic workshop will be held Tuesday at KAIST in Daejeon.
