The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has asked South Korean's not to travel to Louisiana and its surrounding areas as Hurricane Gustav is heading toward them.
The ministry said in a news release that the South Korean Consulate in Houston is preparing for measures to protect Koreans residing in the region from Gustav.
The consulate has been posting information on safety and evacuation measures on its Web site (www.koreahouston.org), it said.
Residents of New Orleans and many other cities across the southern coastal region have been ordered to evacuate as of Sunday morning to seek shelter in nearby states to avoid the hurricane.
Gustav has already killed more than 80 people and destroyed an unspecified number of houses, building and roads in Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and other Caribbean states over the past few days.
