31 Universities to Get Subsidies

The government plans to provide 60 billion won to 31 universities in the metropolitan area, for their distinguished projects and academic achievements.

The universities selected as the beneficiaries in the project, include Hanyang and Sogang universities in the humanities; JoongAng and Dongguk in design and filming; and Kyunghee in international affairs and biotechnology.

The plan is part of efforts to help universities hone their competitiveness through specialized research and educational programs, an official from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said.

The project, launched in 2004, encourages universities to search for their own strengths and make investments in manpower, infrastructure and academic research and development.
