A staff member of the Korean Embassy in Pakistan's port city of Karachi, who had gone missing on Thursday, was found Saturday, according to local police.

Police found Shin Jai-von in a hotel in Karachi around 3 p.m. (local time). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade also confirmed the finding.

Police chief Niaz Siddiqi had earlier said that the case was not of criminal nature and it is possible that he might have gone to see a friend.

The Korean Embassy had written a letter to the police about the missing employee, who was working in the security administration department.

The police chief said that Shin was living with another employee of the embassy in a commercial portion of the posh Clifton locality in Karachi.

Shin had gone to the embassy asking for a job. He was offered employment in the security branch of the administration department, said the police chief, quoting a letter written by the embassy.

The letter said that Shin had been seen putting his baggage in a taxi and leaving the embassy without telling anyone Thursday morning.

The missing staff member was a cause of great concern because the security situation in Pakistan has deteriorated since the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Dec. 27 last year. Since then there have been attacks on top political leaders and public meetings of political parties competing in the Feb. 18 elections.
