Singer Denies Debauchery, Link to Yakuza
A popular South Korean singer chided local media Friday over recent reports alleging he committed adultery and suffered a humiliating assault from Japanese gangsters over his fling with a top actress.
Threatening to drop his trousers in front of a crowd of over 400 journalists and fans at a news conference, Na Hoon-a rebutted rumors that yakuza had him castrated after finding out he had a love affair with a South Korean actress, who was also the mistress of a gang leader. The actress has denied the rumors.
Na also criticized the South Korean media over reports that he has been sexually involved with the wife of a popular comedian and fellow entertainer.
The 61-year-old Na, who became a household name after a series of hit songs with grassroots sentiments during his 42-year career, has been sought by the media and police for the past few weeks as the rumors snowballed.
"There was not a single person calling for discreet reporting while the local media went on with these wild guesses," he said. "It's not me who should explain these rumors, but the media."
"If you don't belive me, I will have to show you," he said, grabbing the buckle on his belt and posing as if he were about to drop his pants.
Televised live on a local cable network, Na accused the media of treating entertainers carelessly and claimed he had been unable to comment on the rumors because he was travelling and "did not feel like doing so."
