Sohn Hak-kyu, chairman of the United New Democratic Party (UNDP), named former Justice Minister Kang Gum-sil and six others as members of the party's Supreme Counsel, Thursday, in an attempt to consolidate unity within the party.
The six are newly appointed Park Hong-soo, a former agriculture and forestry minister; Chung Kyun-hwan, a former lawmaker; Reps. Yoo Ihn-tae, Park Myung-kwang and Hong Jae-hyong; and previous appointee, Kim Sang-hee.
Rep. Woo Sang-ho, the spokesman of the pro-government party, told reporters that the new lineup indicates Sohn has chosen internal unity for the National Assembly elections slated for April 9.
