Koreas to Hold Nuke Talks on Oct. 22-23

The nuclear envoys of the two Koreas will have a meeting on the provision of economic assistance to North Korea in Mt. Geungang in the North on Oct. 22-23, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The meeting is designed to prepare for details before the planned meeting by the working group of the six-party talks on economic and energy cooperation.

Under the Feb. 13 and Oct. 3 agreements by the six-party talks, South Korea, the United States, China, Japan and Russia have to provide 1 million tons of heavy fuel oil or equivalent aid to the North. In return, North Korea must disable its nuclear facilities and declare all its nuclear weapons programs.

Lim Sung-nam, South Korea’s No. 2 nuclear negotiator will lead the delegation from the South.
