North Korea is planning to develop its seaport of Nampo into a logistics hub, Seoul officials said.
North Korean urban planners have completed the design for a logistics complex that spreads over 9.7 million square meters and will also have a scrap metal processing site, they said.
China and Canada will invest in the development of the logistics center, while Canada and Japan will finance the building of the processing site.
Nampo, at the mouth of the Taedong River and 50 kilometers southwest of Pyongyang, is home to powerful heavy industry thanks to state investment. The port city is the center of the country's shipbuilding industry, with facilities for freight transportation, aquatic products, and fisheries.
