Jellyfish Threat Holidaymakers to Sea

Harmful jellyfish were found in all three seas surrounding the Korean peninsula. Over 20 people have been stung in the last two days alone while visiting Haeundae beach, Busan.

National Fisheries Research and Development Institute confirmed reports Saturday that the neighboring seas play host to schools of jellyfish that are known to be harmful to humans.

The institute estimated that the fish travel in large numbers, sometimes in the millions over small surface areas, and asks that beach users to be on the lookout.

Jeju city government is taking measures at reducing the spreading presence off its waters. Haeundae beach in Busan will release 50,000 filefish in the water. The fish is known to be the natural enemy of jellyfish.
