1,000 to Be Summoned for Sex Trade

The Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office said Thursday that it will summon about 1,000 people who are suspected of buying sex at massage parlors near the Incheon International Airport.

It is the first time for the prosecution to summon sex customers for investigation.

On June 27, the prosecution launched investigations of three massage parlors located in the new town near the airport when it received a report that the massage parlors conduct sex trade 24 hours a day with florid signboards and distributing advertisement pamphlets.

Through investigation, the prosecution found that the massage parlors had earned 600 million won in the first six months of this year. As a result, it indicted a 45-year-old Choi, one of the owners, with detention and 52-year-old Kim without detention for mediating sex trade.

The prosecutors also found out that about 2,000 people who paid fees for sex at massage parlors by credit cards, 1,000 clients bought sex at least twice.

As it turned out the list included police officers, soldiers, government employees and high-ranking officials at the airport, human rights activists and woman rights organizations urged the prosecution to reveal names of the sex customers and take legal action against them.

As the number of people for investigation is large, the investigation is expected to end late August at the earliest, according to prosecutors.

``We have decided to summon all the frequent users of the massage parlors in order to block further sex trade near the airport, which seriously tarnishes Korea’s international image,’’ a prosecutor said.
