Universities to Receive Project Subsidy

The educational authority announced Monday the list of universities that will receive the government’s subsidy after the evaluation on 74 universities in the capital area. The government subsidy program aims to help universities develop their own specialized projects.

A total of 35 universities will receive a 60 billion won subsidy with some facing cutbacks in the amount of subsidy or expelled from the benefit, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development said.

Sahmyook University will be expelled from the government subsidy program due to the school’s poor achievement this year.

A total of 14 universities will loose benefits including Sungkyunkwan University with a 238 million won reduction, which is allotted to foster East Asia experts; Sogang University with 121 million won cutbacks in the bio technology sectors and Yonsei University with 165 million won reduction in medical engineering education.
