The minor opposition Democratic Labor Party (DLP) said Wednesday that it will propose a North Korean party to hold a joint debate on DLP presidential contenders' policies on unification.
The DLP sent delegates to the North to have working-level talks with the Korean Social Democratic Party in scenic Mt. Geumkang.
DLP Vice Spokesperson Hwang Seon said the party is considering holding the debate before Aug. 19 when the DLP holds a primary to pick its presidential candidate once the two sides reach an agreement.
``All parties are talking about policies related to unification but the two Koreas should discuss feasibility of those policies because the unification cannot be achieved by only one side,'' the spokesman said.
The debate will be a good opportunity in which the South and North parties can narrow differences, she said.
Reps. Sim Sang-jeong, Roh Hoe-chan and Kwon Young-ghil have been vying to win the DLP's ticket to run in the Dec. 19 presidential race.
