Heavy rain hit the nation as more than 114.5 millimeters of rain fell on Ganghwa area of Gyeonggi Province and others, causing several accidents.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said Monday that the rainy front and low atmospheric pressure brought strong rains to southwestern parts of the peninsula. Alongside Ganghwa, 113.5 mm fell on Namhae with Goheung, Tongyoung and Seoul recording 111 mm, 110 mm and 82 mm of rain, respectively, by Monday morning.

The administration posted heavy rain advisories for Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and parts of Gangwon Province on Monday at 4 a.m., but it was lifted seven hours later.

The heavy rain caused several accidents.

Four houses were under water in Ilwon-dong, Seoul, while the pedestrian road of Youngdong Bridge over the Han River also flooded as pedestrians were banned from crossing the bridge.

Parts of roads in Poi-dong and Nonhyeon-dong in Seoul collapsed and caused traffic jams during the commuting hours.

A car and a taxi collided in the middle of the street killing the driver of the car and two people were hospitalized after a car hit a truck in the middle of the street. Both accidents occurred in Seoul.

The agency said though most parts of the peninsula have cleared up, there are still possibilities of more rainfall in Jeju and the southern part of the country on Tuesday. It also asked people to watch weather reports for updated information and to take measures for flood control or other damage caused by rain and thunderstorms.
