Anti-corruption drive and good governance

Dear editor,

The March 24 advertisement of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) in Korea Times is proving to be in a real role of a tiger as king in the forest who administers the animal kingdom with honesty and great care.

It is, indeed, worth praising and needs to be repeated again and again for winning the faith and confidence of the people of the world including Korea which is otherwise crime free in many respects such as zero crime on the road probably because of the presence of CCTV cameras being installed in every nook and cranny.

To be a role model for the entire world, the commitment of ACRC is full of enthusiasm more than the lip service generally found elsewhere.

To address the complaints more effectively, there is a strong case for time management of 24-hour and seven-day models without any kind of delays in a ppalli-ppalli (hurry-up) society but justice as justice delayed is justice denied.

There is a strong case for every nation like Korea to develop its own standards in terms of good governance not lower than the so-called global standards to prevent corruption which is cancerous in nature.

We can call good governance “SMART” administration consisting of Simple, Moral, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent attributes. The other internationally recognized features of good governance are participation, consensus oriented, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive and follow the rule of law.

It assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making. It is also responsive to the future and present needs of the society.

To adopt and accept the normative approach to human resources in good governance, it is essential to understand the “SIMPLE” model consisting of six human development activities such as Spiritual quotient (SQ) development, Intuition development, Mental level development, Physical development, Love yourself attitude development and Emotional quotient (EQ) development.

The synergy of these six aspects is essential of the desirable human resources for good governance anywhere including Korea and India.
