Congratulations on 60th anniversary - The Korea Times

Congratulations on 60th anniversary

Dear editor,

I’d like to congratulate The Korea Times on its 60th anniversary. On Tuesday morning I read an article published by The Hankook Ilbo, a sister paper of the English daily, on this occasion with much interest, obviously for some good reason.

I worked for the newspaper as a reporter during its earlier period until I left for the United States in 1967. I was one of a dozen or so cub reporters who began their career as journalists at the daily in 1963.

Prof. Suh Chung-woo of Yonsei University, now retired, was one of the reporters. I still remember the makeshift newsroom on the second floor of that old Junghak-dong building in central Seoul.

There were only about 30 or so staff members at The Korea Times but we were a cohesive bunch of colleagues under Lee Kyu-hyon's editorial leadership.

With a bit of nostalgia and fond memories, I extend my warm greetings to The Korea Times ― my first job after college and the initial cornerstone of my lifelong journalism career.
