Kwang Dong sends medicine for quake-ravaged Nepalese

Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical Co. has sent 300 million won ($270,900) worth of medicine to Nepal to help the people of the quake-stricken country, a company spokesman said Wednesday.
Kim Hyun-sig, president of Kwang Dong, visited the Nepalese Embassy in Seoul on May 22 to convey his condolences to Nepalese Ambassador to Korea Kaman Singh Lama and pledged to provide medicine to the Himalayan country.
“We hope our medical supplies will help the Nepalese people who have fallen into despair, and bring hope to them,” Kim said. “We also hope Nepal avoids additional damage.”
The company said the medicine includes antibiotics, anti-inflammatory analgesic drugs and digestives to be used to treat the injured.
In a separate case, the company sent medical volunteers to the Philippines on May 16-17 with a supply of medicine including vitamin injections, pain relievers, antibiotics and flu medicine to the country.
The volunteers, including medical doctors and nurses, provided healthcare services for more than 600 people in Iloilo, the Philippines.
Dr. Kim Wan-ho, head of the Kimwanho Orthopedic Clinic in Seoul, who has offered free treatment in the rundown region of the Philippines for eight years, stressed that vitamin D injections were particularly helpful to the Filipinos suffering from malnutrition.
“Given that many residents are deficient in vitamin D, Kwang Dong’s vitamin injections really helped a lot,” Kim said.
The company also supplied vitamin injections to the disabled, poor and elderly people in Korea last year.
