Lee Sung-joon, a former chief of the Korea Press Foundation, was named chairman of the Korea Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) on Thursday.

The nonprofit circulation audit organization said that members of its board of directors elected Lee to succeed outgoing Chairman Kim Young-il.

Lee, 69, a former journalist, served as vice president of The Hankook Ilbo, a sister paper of The Korea Times, for four years from 1998. He once worked at the Kwanhun Club, an association of senior journalists.

He also served as the inaugural chairman of the Korea Press Foundation between 2010 and 2013.

The Korea ABC certifies and audits the circulations of major publications, including newspapers and magazines in Korea. Its members include 176 daily newspapers, 586 weeklies, 227 magazines and 315 specialized publications.
