Retired tennis player Lee Hyung-taik was conferred the Davis Cup Commitment Award for having shown longstanding dedication to representing Korea in the competition. He was presented the award at the Busan Spo1 Tennis Courts, Saturday.

“This award is all the more meaningful to me as I have become the first Korean to have received it,” Lee said. “I hope more Korean tennis players will strive to win this honor.”

The Davis Cup Commitment Award was conceived as part of the International Tennis Federation’s 2013 Centenary celebrations.

Only athletes who have competed in 20 or more home-and-away ties are eligible. Former recipients include Boris Becker of Germany, Lleyton Hewitt of Australia and Roger Federer of Switzerland.

Lee participated in the Davis Cup 30 times during the 14 years he spent as a member of the national team, and chalked up 51 wins, a Korean record.
