Ven. Jinje, one of the most prominent living masters of the practice of “seon (Zen)," will visit the U.S. at the end of the month at the invitation of the U.S. Congress.

The renowned monk is one of the religious leaders invited to a breakfast prayer meeting to be held at the Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. on Feb. 2.

President Barack Obama is expected to speak at the meeting where leaders in various fields from 140 countries will participate.

The 78-year-old monk will leave for the U.S. on Jan. 28. He will also hold several Dharma talks during his stay. He previously held a Dharma talk at Riverside Church in New York on Sept. 15, 2011.

In December 2011, Ven. Jinje was appointed the next "jongjeong," or highest spiritual leader, of the Jogye Order, the largest Buddhist sect in Korea.

Ven. Jinje has been widely acknowledged as being one of the most eminent teachers of Korean seon meditation. In the last few years, he has been active in promoting Korean Buddhism overseas.

He recently published an English-language book called “Open the Mind, See the Light," aimed at introducing the benefits of seon practice in daily life.
