Hongik University, famous for its top-notch arts school, said Monday that its board members have elected professor Chang Young-tae as its 16th president, succeeding incumbent Kwon Myung-kwang.

Graduating from Seoul National University in German language and literature, Chang started to teach at Hongik in 1982, and served as vice president.

The 65-year-old professor will take office on Sept. 30 for a three-year term.

``I will do my utmost to build a future-oriented school that will nurture leaders of knowledge-based industries,'' Chang said in a statement.
