Former first lady Lee Hee-ho was appointed as the new chairwoman of the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center at a board meeting, Thursday, the center said in a press release.
The post has remained vacant since former President Kim passed away on Aug. 18.
"I really appreciate the opportunity to continue my husband's goodwill," Lee said in her inaugural speech. "I will do my utmost for the peace on the Korean Peninsula, East Asia and the world, and peaceful reconciliation between South and North Korea, which is the very purpose of the inception of the center."
She also said she will make efforts to help impoverished neighborhoods.
