Incheon Mayor to Present Development Cases at Forum
Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo will present the city's development cases and plans on its free economic zone at the 2009 Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) to be held from Sept. 15 to 17 in the port city.
The conference will take place on the sidelines of the 2009 Incheon Global Fair and Festival, which is being held in the nearby Songdo International City for 80 days from Aug. 7.
About 150 mayors ― 120 from international cities and 30 from domestic cities ― will participate in the three-day conference under the theme of ``Creative Urban Development."
According to the city, about 1,000 scholars and experts will also share their vision on creative urban policies.
Mayor Ahn said the summit will be an opportunity to focus Asia-Pacific attention on the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ), currently under construction in the adjacent Songdo, Cheongna and Yeongjong areas.
Speakers will include Sasaki Masayuki, professor of urban and cultural economics at the Graduate School for Creative Cities at Japan's Osaka City University, and Jacques Attali, former president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Founded in 1996, the biennial summit was first initiated by Brisbane, Australia, and has since become the region's leading government and business forum.
