Chun Taeck-soo Named Secretary General of UNESCO Korea
Chun Taeck-soo, 57, has been appointed as new secretary general of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU).
Chun, who received a doctorate in economics from the State University of New York, has taught economics at the Academy of Korean Studies since 1991.
Between 1998 and 1999, he led a project compiling the Electronic Encyclopedia of Korean Folklore, a digital compendium of local traditions. He also participated in the digitalization of Jangseogak, the royal library of the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910).
In his inaugural speech, Chun said the KNCU will initiate a project to send young Koreans to Africa as messengers of hope. His term is four years.
