Park Seh-jik, chairman of the Korea Veterans Association, will leave for Canada today to meet officials working with South Korean and Canadian veterans there, the group said Tuesday.

Park will visit the city of Burnaby in the Vancouver Metro area, where he is scheduled to meet with Mayor Derek Corrigan to present an appreciation plaque for the mayor's contribution to promoting ties between South Korean and Canadian war veterans residing in the city, it said in a news release.

During his five-day stay, Park will pay a visit to the Korean War Monument at Burnaby's Central Park to commemorate hundreds of Canadians killed in the 1950-53 Korean War. Canada sent over 25,000 troops to Korea during the fratricidal war. Over 300 of them lost their lives, while some 1,200 others were wounded.
