Experts in medicine, pharmacology and health products from around the world will gather to hold a symposium at the Plaza Hotel in Seoul, March 25, to discuss the anti-aging effects of vitamin C.
The Korean Society of Food Science and Technology (KOSFOST) said Friday that it will host the fourth International Symposium on vitamin C to discuss how to prevent diseases in the elderly.
It said that the symposium is expected to focus on cancer treatment using vitamin C and its effects on aging skin.
Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical Co. is sponsoring the event. The company is well known for its vitamin C product, Vita 500.
According to Kwang Dong, Dr. Fiona Harrison of Vanderbilt University and Dr. Edgar Miller of the Johns Hopkins University are among those who will speak at the symposium, themed “Vitamin C and Wellbeing for an Aging Society.”
Professor Lee Wang-jae of Seoul National University will also speak.
The symposium organizer said that vitamin C is an essential and economical nutrient for maintaining health.
The society and Kwang Dong have collaborated to promote vitamin C since 2008. The first joint symposium touched on the effects of vitamin C on common diseases and the second, in 2010, on death with its anti-viral and immune-boosting effects. The third in 2012 was on the effects of vitamin C on ailments that accompany old age.
