(150) A fortune teller

By Jason Shim
A woman visited my office late one night last year. She looked almost out of her mind and desperately wanted her saju read. We were conducting a saju seminar that day and the meeting extended longer than scheduled over discussion about serious saju theories. Since the group happened to comprise a shaman and fortune tellers, her saju was read by all of us. We immediately knew that she came to hear about her husband. A letter indicateㅇ her husband and marriage palace were damaged seriously. This was advised to her and she just left without acknowledging anything.
Several days passed. She knocked on my door again one day and then we were able to talk more about her life.
She failed at her first marriage, having cheated on her husband. She married again, but this time she was cheated on and sent to Coventry. She didn’t want to lose another marriage and was desperately trying to hold on to her second husband.
At the same time, she confessed that she was a professional fortune teller. Being a fortune teller didn’t do anything to change her destiny and she understood everything about her saju reading. She even pretended that she was a psychic and had the ability to hear “channel” messages from the beyond. She actually wasn’t.
Here is her saju.
Being born with yang wood element suggests that she can easily stick up for others trying to be influential. Among two expression stars (fire element), one in the month pillar is unhealthy, and the other in the time pillar is shaken by the clashed root of yang wood branch (tiger). The expression star denotes children and talent in her profession. She may brag out her ability as a fortune teller while she wasn’t actually so capable, but she has certain knack for making others trust her.
The serious problem lies in her marriage palace.
Yang metal (monkey) in her day branch clashes with yang wood (tiger) in her time branch. Both are damaged. Her marriage, husband and she herself are all victims of this clash. It is sitting on a day and time pillars. It is the time of one’s age from 40 to 55. She was 47 years old and it didn’t look like she could avoid her destiny.
By the way, the metal element of her day branch, which denotes her husband, is such precious energy in her life because it is the only element. Once she lost it, the loss left a vacuum in her heart yet she could never give it up.
While some clashes can be recovered when they are placed between month and year pillars, some may devastate one’s life seriously. And it is hard to convince one to relinquish the obsession.
Since our first meeting, she visits and calls me every other day to ask for her saju to be read over and over again. Although it’s hard to understand, her way of living is not ― her life is indeed pitiful and I was not able to ignore her.
Saju masters in my saju seminars often question themselves, “Can we change our destiny as we know our saju?” The answer is “No,” as they all know.
Nevertheless, some may try to change their destiny, partly because they acutely want to, partly because their lives are too devastated. It is a hopeless hope.
