So what exactly does it mean to be ``the world’s most desirable man”?
``In order to be a role model for men all over the world, he must be handsome, well-mannered and healthy,’’ said Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino.
The 24-year-old beauty from Gibraltar is one of the judges for the Mr World 2010 contest underway in Korea. In short, a man must have both style and substance to be Mr World.
According to the Mr World Organizing Committee of The Hankook Ilbo-The Korea Times Media Group, which is co-organizing the event with the Miss World Organization, the 74 contestants are being judged in four preliminary events before the grand finale, Saturday in Incheon.
``The participants will go through four preliminary rounds ― sports, talent, cooking and fashion ― before vying for the Mr World title at the main contest,’’ said the committee’s publicist.
``We are looking for a James Bond-type who can climb a mountain in the morning and cook a meal in the evening,'' said a spokesperson for the Miss World Organization. Scores from the four preliminary rounds will be combined with evaluations from the main contest, he said.
The men engaged in various sporting events, from mountain-trekking to paint-ball fights and learning taekwondo. Some even trained with the Korean Marines.
Only those who passed an audition are qualified to perform in the talent show held last Thursday in Gyeongju. Korea’s Yoo Ji-kwang stole the spotlight with his singing and received a fast-track pass to the semifinal. This means he will be exempt from what will be the first round of eliminations.
On Sunday, the blue team (one of the four groups the participants are divided into) won the Korean food cooking challenge at the Korea House in Seoul.
Humanitarian ideals are also an important part of the ``alpha male package.’’ Twenty-eight participants took part in a Habitat for Humanity house-building project on Saturday in Gyeonggi Province, while all contestants will walk the runway in a fundraising fashion show tonight in Incheon. Proceeds from the event, featuring couture by Andre Kim, will go to the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), a United Nations research center based in Seoul. The money will be used to help North Korean children.
Ideal Girls’ Ideal Man
K-pop group Girls’ Generation will be appearing as guest performers at the Mr World 2010 finale, Saturday in Incheon.
They are idolized by small children and older fans alike for their feminine charms, but what do the girls look for in a boyfriend? The nine members shared their ideas of ``the world’s most desirable man.’’
Yuri, Sunny and Seohyun noted warmth and politeness.
Others seemed to be swayed by appearances, with Taeyeon preferring those with nice smiles, Hyoyeon attracted to those without eye creases and Jessica being influenced by down-to-earth first impressions.
Meanwhile, others pointed out traits such as a strong sense of responsibility (Tiffany), thoughtfulness (Yoona) and passion for work (Sooyoung).
``When I think of the ideal man, I think of someone who would be a great father _ who can be calm, coolheaded and considerate in all situations. Would it be fair to expect such qualities from the world’s most desirable man?’’ said Yoona.
