(32) Expression star I
By Janet Shin
The expression stars are the elements generated by a day stem (friend star). The Chinese word for the expression star means plentiful food served after hard work. It also means that when a person doesn't work hard, he doesn't deserve food.
When the saju has good and strong expression stars, the person is talented and eloquent. For this reason, we may see good expression stars in the saju of many singers, actors and actresses. The teachers and professors have good expression stars in their saju along with good knowledge stars. Whether they are teaching at a prominent university or tutoring depends on the status of their career stars.
On the other hand, the person who has too many expression stars in its saju has talents in several different areas so he tends to have difficulty prioritizing. Although it is one of the most important factors in current society, it was tempered a little in ancient Oriental society. Knowledge and career stars were valued more than the expression stars in old days, because people thought too much talent is harmful in maintaining one's reputation. The talents are not concealed but expressed, which often hurt others. Ancient Oriental people regarded it as a mean behavior.
But if the person has expression stars with knowledge stars to restrain them well, he or she is talented as well as matured to use the talent in a good way. Anyway, the expression cycle is one of the most interesting factors to read the people's fates by in modern society.
People's taste of language, fashion and the behavior are changing as time goes by. Even in the same age, the taste level is different depending where they live.
1)Family relations:
the women's sons and daughters (as it is nourished by the day stem), grandmother, men's mother in law. For a day master of a wood element, fire is the expression star.
2)Social relations:
subordinates, juniors and followers
3)General and best traits
• The occupation, the job and the own-business (self-employed). It means `acting'.
• Focused, intelligent, talented
• Cares, helps others, apprehensive.
• Shows off, positive, progressive, future oriented
• Candid and a good conversationalist
4) Worst traits
• Strong self-assertion makes the relationship with the spouse and others worse.
• Heavy expression stars make the person lack subjectivity.
• Changes the profession and unstable occupation
• Doesn't follow rules and neglects the regulation. Lack of principle
• Likes to eat, drink and play around. Not family-oriented.
Here is a saju of a famous singer who keeps making blunders. He used to be one of the most talented and beloved singers but his continued weird behavior has disappointed many of his fans. His name is Michael Jackson, born in 1958 (year of dog, mu-sul).
At a glance, we recognize the strong expression stars gyeong and sin metals in a month pillar. Since he was born in sin metal month, the most predominant factor in his life is his talent (or expression cycle). As explained in previous columns, the month branch has the most influence in determining the power and the direction of life path.
By the way, his expression star (sin metal) conflicts with in wood (career star) fiercely. Career stars, which we will learn in later columns mean the person's social identity, how people appraise the person. The career stars also mean his children. The collision of in (wood) and sin (metal) is one of the fiercest conflicts in saju, since it involves the two most active elements. An ax (sin) chops the big tree (in) and in wood hurts the blade of the ax. What he tried to express himself (sin metal) would hurt his identity (in wood) and by disappointing others, he would hardly express his talent well.
Superior talent often causes more misfortune and anguish. This is the reason why we should not trust the in-born talent too much. Without life experience and modesty, there are rare accomplishments solely achieved by born talent. On the other hand, the experience may achieve something that could have not been achieved by talent. People only acknowledge this after they lost a lot of values in the life.
