Iron Butterflies
Birute Regine; Translated from English to Korean by Ryu Ga-mee; Feelbooks: 528 pp., 17,000 won
A transition is taking place in the male dominated society. An increasing number of women have started to exert power and leadership in various fields.
This book is about the stories of dynamic female role models— businesswomen, CEOs, a congresswoman, a governor, an ex-prime minister, a novelist, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, a winemaker, artists, doctors, nurses and many others.
Author Birute Regine, once a psychotherapist and now working as a life coach and facilitator, interviewed over 60 leading women from various sectors and covered the tragicomedy of their experiences in human relations and social life.
The author also covers stories of their struggles, their fallibilities, and their strengths to become the top of their professions. The author calls these women “iron butterflies” because they blend a strong will with a gentle touch. The ways that female leaders respect other people and treat them with love show a new vision for society.
It presents an alternative reality that could help people in Korea live happily without a volatile work culture.

A Dentist Can Make You More Beautiful!
Lew Ho-sung; Myung Mun Publishing; 224 pp., 50,000 won
Koreans have traditionally considered good teeth alignment as an important factor in determining facial beauty.
A Korean orthodontic specialist has published an English-language book on orthodontic treatments to straighten the teeth alignment. The author underlines that aside from changing the way you talk, chew, and swallow, such treatments will also improve your self-esteem.
“Many foreigners who can speak English are living in Korea, and they also wish to get informed about orthodontic treatments.
However, they often cannot fully get information. I wrote this book because I thought that providing those information was also part of responsibility of dentist who studied orthodontics,” the writer said in a press release.
The book covers history of orthodontics; alignment of the upper and lower teeth; malocclusion and therapy, among other topics.
Though it carries useful information about dental health, the book is a bit pricy at 50,000 won.
