‘Fanta-Stick'
Seoul Fanta-Stick Theater

"Fanta-Stick" is performed daily at Seoul Fanta-Stick Theater on an open-ended run. The performance presents original representative Korean music, using traditional Korean instruments to create fusion gugak. Park Ji-hoon, Lee Seok-jae, Kwon Hyun-soo and Na Jung-suk play the main roles of Jangdan and Saemachi. The show also features Yang Ye-rim, Kim Jee, Kim Sae-jin, Yoon Sung-hwan, Kim Byung-soo and Shin Kwang-hee.

‘YOULL'
Jeongdong Theater

"YOULL," a dance performance mixed with drama, will be staged at Jeongdong Theater until the end of 2016.
The performance will bring a wide range of traditional modes of expression together, including Korean dance, theater, music and martial arts. By applying the heroic fantasy genre to this production, Jeongdong Theater hopes to broaden its popular appeal. Actors Jeon Jin-hong, Lee Hyuk, Park Ji-yeon and Cho Haneul will play the main roles.

‘2016 Masterpiece'

Through "2016 Masterpiece," the National Orchestra of Korea will shed new light on the great works of six traditional Korean music composers in modern history, all of whom made significant contributions to the advancement of Korean music. In memory and respect of the six composers, their juniors and pupils, who are now renowned contemporary artists themselves, have newly created musical compositions that reflect their own interpretations on the masterpieces. The National Orchestra of Korea will play those compositions on Nov. 25, conveying the harmony between the legacy of the past and creativity of the present. The performance will be conducted by Lim Jae-won, artistic director of the National Orchestra of Korea.

‘As the Moon Waxes and Wanes'

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of MMCA Gwacheon, it will hold a special exhibition called "As the Moon Waxes and Wanes" until Feb. 12, 2017.
MMCA Gwacheon has acquired 5,800 additional works of art over the past three decades, which comprise 74% of its entire collection. This special exhibition will focus on its new collections. It will shed light on the lifecycle and destiny of a work of art proceeded by the dialectical course, from the conditions that prompt the creation of an artwork to the production, circulation, acquisition, utilization, preservation, death and rebirth.

‘The Path Taken towards Freedom’

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History holds a photo exhibition. In collaboration with the House of Terror museum in Hungary, the exhibition presents diverse photographs reflecting the modern history of Hungary. Through these photos, visitors will see how Hungary’s modern history mirrors that of Korea. Both Koreans and Hungarians have worked furiously to protect their nations, traditions and freedoms from the surrounding superpowers, and have gone through the turbulence of World War II and the Cold War. This exhibition will inspire people to acknowledge the modern history of the two countries, and how their peoples have strived for democracy and freedom.

‘Art in The City, The City in Art'

Cities in Korea have gone through constant changes and expansion since the late Joseon Dynasty. The National Museum of Korea is holding a special exhibition that presents the history and development of Korean cities from the 18th century to the modern era.
Under the four main themes, "Beyond the City Walls," "People, Captivated by the City," "Art, portraying the Sensibilities of the City" and "The City, Facing Modernity," this exhibition features diverse artworks related to urban culture and their significance to the history of urbanization. Numerous paintings, handicrafts and photographs from Korea and abroad are presented at the event, including the famous folk paintings of Kim Hong-do (1745-1806) and Shin Yun-bok (1758-1813) that depict simple, everyday life of the citizens of Hanyang (modern-day Seoul). From the exhibition, visitors can learn about the exchange between cities in Korea, China and Japan, the emergence of art markets followed by the transformation of contents and forms of art, and the influence of rapid modernization on Korean art.

‘The Great Graffiti’

Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum is holding the exhibition “The Great Graffiti” from Dec. 9 to Feb. 26, 2017. This exhibition presents the works of five globally renowned graffiti artists: Crash, JonOne, Nick Walker, Shepard Fairey and Zeus. It is the world’s first exhibition that features the works of all those artists in the same place. Through this exhibition, the Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum aims to introduce Korea to the international trend in art.

‘Anthology'
Seoul Museum of Art
The Seoul Museum of Art is holding the exhibition "Anthology" throughout 2016 that presents Gana Art collection.
The collection consists of 200 works of Korean realism donated by Lee Ho-jae, the head of Gana Art. The 200 donated works are composed of 120 paintings, 10 traditional Korean paintings, 7 prints, and 23 sculptures. The works were created by 46 artists who are members of groups such as Hyun-sil and Bal-un, Gwangju Liberal Artists Association, Dureong and ImSulNyeon. With a large body of historical Minjung artwork that reflects the zeitgeist of the 1980s, the collection provides a comprehensive overview of hyperrealist and expressionist works of Korean art from the 1960s to 1990s.

An exhibition featuring works of Danish designers will be held at Seoul Arts Center's Hangaram Design Museum.
Denmark has produced a number of great designers such as Arne Jacobson and Hans Wegner. Danish designs are simple and modern, and also have functionality and beauty. Moreover, nature-friendliness of materials and designs attract a wide variety of people. This exhibition presents the essence of Danish design as well as unique culture and society focusing on design after the mid-century which is the golden age of Danish design.

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

"Kim Sooja: Archive of Mind," a program in the MMCA Hyundai Motor Series, will be run an exhibition until Feb. 5, 2017. Since the series' inauguration in 2014, it has been inviting and supporting one leading artist of Korea every year. Artist Kim Soo-ja has been selected this year. For the past 30 years, Kim's ever-evolving work has explored painting, daily objects, actions and social issues such as migration, exile and violence. The project will bring together nine pieces to present an overview of her artistic realm and will serve as an impetus for the artist to seek a meaningful shift in her practice.

Nick Knight: Image

Daelim Museum presents "Nick Knight: Image," Korea's first exhibition of works by Nick Knight, opening Oct. 6.
As part of the first generation of photographers to combine photography with digital graphics technology, Knight is a self-described image-maker who strives to create his own unique style across a broad spectrum of genres including documentary work, fashion photography and digital imagery. Knight's collaborations with leading designers, brands and magazines including Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Vogue have drawn wide attention.
This exhibition will present about 100 key photos, videos and installations by Nick Knight, highlighting his artistic avant-garde experimentation that constantly overturns conventional values and notions of beauty. Knight's images, produced through bold demolition of existing forms, bring new visual stimulation to viewers, providing not fear of the unfamiliar but a sense of excitement.

‘A Wedding Day in Autumn'

The National Hangeul Museum will run a special exhibition "A Wedding Day in Autumn 1837: Hangeul Materials Related to Princess Deogon" from Sept. 13 to Dec. 18.
This exhibition will introduce documents written in hangeul concerning Princess Deogon (1822-1844), the last princess of the Joseon Dynasty and the youngest daughter of King Sunjo. It is divided into two big themes, the first part on the wedding ceremony of Princess Deogon in 1837 and the second focusing on her life after marriage.

The Musee D'Orsay, one of the top Parisian museums, is bringing to Korea a total of 131 artworks by Koreans' favorite artists ― Jean François Millet, Van Gogh, Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, and Paul Gauguin. The majority of the works are from the late 19th and early 20th centuries with a focus on Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. It is a part of the "Year of Korea-France Bilateral Exchanges" in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The exhibition will be held until March 2017.

Works of David LaChapelle will be exhibited in Korea at Ara Modern Art Museum from Nov. 19 to Feb. 26, 2017.
Titled "David LaChapelle: Inscape of Beauty," the exhibition will feature about 200 works showcasing the broad span of his art, ranging from early pieces to new series never shown in Asia. The artist is known internationally for his exceptional talent in combining a unique hyper-realistic aesthetic with profound social messages. LaChapelle's photography career began in the 1980s when he began showing his artwork in New York; his photographs of celebrities garnered positive attention, and before long he was shooting for a variety of top editorial publications and creating some of the most memorable ad campaigns of his generation. This exhibition of LaChapelle's work will mark his third solo show in Korea.

‘Craft Narrative: The Place, Process, Perspective'

MMCA holds "Craft Narrative: The Place, Process, Perspective," the first craft exhibition at the Seoul branch of the museum, until Jan. 30, 2017.
This exhibition not only observes craft in the form of fixed objects, but also sheds light on the values of craft by exploring its processes and practices as well as the attitudes and efforts of the artists. Focusing on three themes of "knocking," "kneading" and "weaving," the exhibition presents over 100 works by a total of six craft artists including Lee Bong-ju, Koh Bo-hyung, Bae Yeon-sik, Kang Ki-ho, Park Mi-ok, and Oh Hwa-jin.

The Children's musical "Cloud Bread" as an open-ended run is staged at Art Center Tree and Water at Daehangno.
After the story "Cloud Bread" made its debut in 2004, this story has undergone several adaptations and captured the hearts of countless children and adults through the musical, children's music concert, and an animation series. Min Jung-ki, Lim Su-min, Choi Yun-chung and Lee Dae-eun play the main characters.
