A painting by actor and director Ha Jung-woo was sold for 14 million won at a local art auction, I Auction said Wednesday.
The piece titled "Keep Silence" started at 12 million and was sold for 14 million won a day later.
The auctioneers' estimate was between 13 million and 25 million won.
“Ha’s recognition in the art world has been reflected in the estimates,” said an I Auction official. “Most of the figures in his pictures are real people around him. Those simplified figures mixed with pop art and expressionism are easily understood by viewers.”
Ha, who started painting as a hobby in 2007, debuted as a painter in 2o10. Since then he has held exhibitions in Seoul and New York every year. Influenced by Jackson Pollock and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Ha’s paintings are mostly portraits, cross pop art and expressionism.
He sold all his paintings at his first New York exhibition in 2013.
