Imagine living in a place where everything is a piece of art, from your couch in the living room to your bedroom closet to even your child's playpen. This is exactly what Doosan Gallery's ``Art at Home, Wonderful Life" exhibit is all about.
Doosan Gallery, located at Doosan Art Center, Yeonji-dong, Seoul, has been transformed into a house filled with colorful and unique art works created by 322 artists and designers.
The exhibit, curated by Ryu Byeong-hak, is aimed at bringing art into an everyday setting for ordinary people. Art has always been seen as accessible only through galleries and museums, but Ryu wants to make it more familiar to people.
The layout of the 200-square meter gallery space is similar to a real house, divided into a living room, a study room, a child's playroom and a bedroom.
Walking inside the Doosan Gallery, visitors feel like they are entering someone's home. As you enter, a painting of a cute schoolgirl with the words ``Welcome Back Mr." greets you.
The living room is stylishly decorated with art works on the walls, but visitors should take a closer look at the low table made out of crushed aluminum cans of coffee, iced tea and cola. Even the ``chandelier" is made out of bright blue rope.
The children's room is cheerfully decorated with bright-colored art works, such as an Andy Warhol-inspired work made out of Lego blocks and a row of crosses featuring Spiderman, Taekwon V, Mr. Incredible and Batman, instead of Christ. It's not hard to imagine young boys and girls jumping in the pool filled with pink, blue, yellow and green plastic balls, or playing on the rubber mat.
The bedroom has a modern and traditional Korean feel. There is a red futon on the floor, while there is also an antique-looking closet and table.
The exhibit runs through Aug. 28. Doosan Gallery is at the first floor of Doosan Art Center. From Exit 1 Jongno 5-ga Station (Line 1), turn left at the first alley and go straight. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m, Tuesday to Sunday. Closed on Monday.
