Kim Yong-ok’s daughter becomes a nude artist

Although people often travel to famous places like Istanbul, New York and Berlin, they don’t usually go naked.

Kim Miru has.

In an effort to overcome her fear and bolster her courage, the daughter of the controversial philosopher Kim Yong-ok, also known as pen name of Do-ol, has set it upon herself to take nude photos to new heights – literally, the Daily Mail reported.

So far, her works include posing on a precarious perch on top of an abandoned temple in Istanbul, crouching underneath a bridge in New York and many other unusual snapshots.

The 30-year-old former medical student has earned international acclaim from both casual viewers and art experts alike. “My work in general involves getting over my fears that are deeply embedded since childhood: Fear of darkness, fear of dangerous activities in general,” she said. “It's beyond therapeutic. I do this through art, because I identify with countless other people who go through the emotions of overcoming fears.”

However, it hasn’t been easy. During the course of her work, Kim has had to endure such travails as finding a dead body under a bridge, being harassed by a hobo, and getting chased out of public spaces by conservative Muslims.

But even with trouble, Kim says she finds peace in her hard work. “As I got used to being naked in urban ruins, I felt these spaces transform from dangerous to peaceful, from stranger to familiar,” she said.

Although her work has gathered considerable acclaim from critics, the response from the general public has been slightly more moribund. But Kim isn’t bothered by any of that, she says.

“People have different interpretations of my work, and I like that flexibility and openness,” she said.
