K-pop group Girls’ Generation ran into an unfortunate accident involving an unknown man, who trespassed onto their stage at the “Angel Price Music Festival” at the Lotte World ice rink in eastern Seoul, on Sunday.
Towards the end of their performance of “Run Devil Run,” a male audience member intruded onto their stage from the back and attempted to pull Tae-yeon, 22, away by grabbing her wrist.
The other group members were caught off-guard but Sunny reacted quickest and tried to stop him but could not do so. The show’s host, comedian Oh Jung-tae, managed to stop the man and security staff soon intervened by apprehending the man.
Audience members reportedly looked on with shock and were further impressed with Tae-yeon’s professional attitude in returning and performing until the end.
“During the latter part of the event, there was an unexpected accident. Tae-yeon, however, handled the matter bravely and security staff prevented the situation from becoming more severe,” said a spokesman of SM Entertainment the nine-member group belongs to. “At first, the audience and concert representatives all thought that a staff member was going on stage. The girls returned back to their dorms and are currently resting.”
Criticisms arose after footage of the incident was made public. The male suddenly appeared from backstage with no apprehension from the staff. Many believed that the security backstage was too lax.
A staff member of the concert said that all areas were thoroughly monitored. He said that the security guards must have mistakenly let him through, thinking that he was a staff member.
Netizens soon voiced their disappointment, saying, “it’s easy to see that the man did not have an id around his neck or anywhere else to show that he was part of the staff.”

소녀시대 태연은 17일 오후 서울시 송파구 롯데월드 아이스 링크 특설무대에서 열린 ‘엔젤 프라이스 뮤직페스티벌’에서 ‘런 데빌 런’을 부르던 도중 무대로 난입한 남성 관객에 의해 손을 잡혀 무대 뒤까지 끌려가는 아찔한 경험을 했다.
이후 오정태와 같은 그룹의 멤버 써니가 곧바로 달려가 그 남성을 제지하고 뒤이어 달려온 공연 스태프들이 태연을 구해내면서 이는 납치미수에서 단순 무대사고로 일단락됐다.
그러나 이를 지켜본 관객들과 동영상으로 이 사건을 접한 팬들은 충격을 감추지 못하고 있다. 사람들이 그토록 많은 공간에서, 그것도 수 십명의 공연 스태프와 경호원들이 배치되어 있는 상황에서 어떻게 이런 일이 발생할 수 있었느냐는 것이다.
더욱이 동영상에서 미루어볼 때 무대 앞 쪽에서 갑작스레 출현한 것이 아니라 무대 백스테이지에서 괴한이 난입한 것으로 보여 유유히 무대 뒤편에서 경호업체의 보안을 뚫은 것이 아니냐는 비난이 이어지는 것이다.
이러한 비난에 대해 공연 관계자 측은 당시 공연무대 뒤편과 가수 대기실 사이에서는 이미 경호업체 직원 10명이 가수들의 안전을 위해 배치되어 있었으나 경호업체 직원들이 학생이나 공연 스태프인줄 알고 들여보낸 것으로 보인다고 밝힌 바 있다.
그러나 누리꾼들은 이러한 해명에 대체적으로 납득하기가 어렵다는 반응이다. 누리꾼들은 게시판을 통해 “동영상으로 봐도 괴한이 학생티가 전혀 나지 않는데 무슨 말이냐”, “공연 스태프들은 다 신분증을 차고 있다는 건 상식”이라는 반응을 보였다.
한편 이번 사건 담당인 된 송파 경찰서에 따르면 태연이 이번 사건에 대해 용서의 뜻을 밝히고 있으며 공연 주최 측과 상의한 후 처벌여부를 결정할 것이라고 밝혔다.
