German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Wednesday that the surprise martial law declaration in ally South Korea that was reversed only hours later was worrying.
"It is very worrying that we are hearing that a country with which we are allies and friends, such as South Korea, has now declared martial law," he told parliament. "My wish is that this will be withdrawn very quickly."
President Yoon Suk Yeol in fact reversed his martial law declaration, which triggered the biggest political crisis in decades in Asia's fourth-largest economy, just hours after he made it late on Tuesday. (Reuters)
