The South Chungcheong Provincial Government and local governments in China have declared intentions to deepen their exchanges and collaboration, with a particular emphasis on advanced industries.
South Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Tae-heum met with Chinese Ambassador to Korea Xing Haiming, Monday, to discuss expanding bilateral relations. The meeting was held in conjunction with the seventh South Chungcheong Province-China Local Government Exchange Conference, aimed at commemorating the 30th anniversary of exchanges between the two regions. Officials from 13 Chinese local governments were invited to participate in the event.
"This year marks the 30th anniversary of exchanges between South Chungcheong Province and Chinese local governments,” Kim said. “South Chungcheong Province will lead the development of bilateral relations based on the solid foundation of cooperation built with 13 Chinese local governments."
Xing expressed gratitude for the importance placed on the relationship with China and pledged to implement proposed measures to enhance cooperation between the regions.
Both parties acknowledged the importance of strengthening exchanges between local governments, particularly in light of the uncertain international landscape.
"Economically, Korea and China have an inseparable relationship," Kim said. "Despite differences in diplomatic and security matters, close cooperation between local governments is essential."
Looking ahead, South Chungcheong Province and Chinese local governments plan to deepen cooperation in advanced industries such as energy, semiconductors and biotechnology. Kim announced plans for a visit to China within the year to facilitate closer exchanges. Xing echoed the sentiment, pledging to further develop relations.
